Spencer Gates, dear friend to so many residents of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 6

March 25, 1961 - July 6, 2008

Spencer Gates, dear friend to so many residents of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 6. She was a beautiful soul, always thoughtful, and brought many of us together. Those who were with her during the last few days say she was surrounded by family and friends who gathered to celebrate her life.

Spencer was one in a million! She was a magnet for friendship and she taught us the invaluable gift of opening ourselves to others. An angel that we were blessed to know! Happy Trails Sweetie.

Such a sad passing

I had the pleasure to know Spencer and she was always full of smiles, positive energy, and lots of life. She'll be greatly missed.

A celebration

A tribute celebration is shaping up in Cambridge for Wednesday at 11 AM in the Charles Hotel in Harvard Sq. in the Kennedy room. Friends of Spencer's from around the globe are flocking- and there are many who loved her from many different times in her life. The early Boston days punk-rock ensemble will be there in force- oh, there will be music whether the Charles knows what they are getting in for or not! I encourage anyone to make the trip, but please know that we will have our own party in the fall for all who can't make it.

a fitting tribute

for my 17th birthday, i think, spencer gave me the replacements seminal album 'let it be'. whenever i hear 'i will dare', i can't help but think of her. she will be missed terribly. i do not doubt that she has joined the leagues of fellow 'pazz and jop' connoisseurs at the great rock show in the sky.

I Will Dare

"How young are you?
How old am i?
Let’s count the rings around my eyes
How smart are you?
How dumb am i?
Don’t count any of my advice

Oh, meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now I don’t care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I might dare

Call me on thursday, if you will
Or call me on wednesday, better still
Ain’t lost yet, so I gotta be a winner
Fingernails and a cigarette’s a lousy dinner
Young, are you?

Meet me anyplace or anywhere or anytime
Now, I don’t care, meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare"
